...when it could happen to you...
People from all walks of life turn up at our door.
Some you could say brought it on themselves, some hit upon hard times, some were just unlucky.
There’s no ‘hard and fast’ reason why, for all.
But there is a reason why we do it.
A church, a city centre, a night shelter and a smile.
We do it because Jesus told us to.
Christians at the Central Methodist Church have been serving the people of Preston for many years. From the Lancashire Cotton Famine in the mid 1800’s to the Soup Kitchen of the 1980’s Central has been caring and providing for those in need.
In 1990 out of the determination and commitment of the members, an 8 bedded night
shelter was opened. Initially only for 3 nights a week, it was soon open full-
From a 3 night a week soup kitchen to full time night shelter, providing clothing, washing, laundry and meals was a huge undertaking for the church.
Now, in 2007 a rebuild is taking place. Single bedrooms and new facilities will enable us to continue to care for those who ‘fall through the safety net of society onto the concrete floor’.
